Roddick Total Tennis is a one of a kind academy offering summer camps, weekly sessions, full time boarding and semester programs that cater to players of all levels. All players that enroll into one of the academy's programs will be accessed via technical (Dartfish) and tactical filming by one of RTT directors.
Roddick Total Tennis intentionally designed the academy on a small scale to ensure the teaching and coaching consistency of the entire coaching team. The RTT coaching team is the key to our successful program. RTT staff understands that focusing too much on winning and not enough time on developing skills required to enable players to compete effectively is paramount. The knowledge base of our coaching staff is second to none. We invest time and money into our coaches to make certain that they have a clear understanding of how to develop a player. The training they receive provides a cohesiveness that ensures we deliver a clear and consistent message, which helps students progress faster, have more success, and avoid confusion. Our coaches always reinforce correct technique and training procedures for the purpose of developing positive self esteem. To build a powerful image of self, a player must structure a string of successes. RTT's entire program is tailored to meet the needs of the individual. RTT's unique on court ratio of 4 players on 2 courts with one coach makes for the ideal training environment.
Roddick Total Tennis focuses on tennis development with special reference to growth, maturation, and trainability. The desire to train, improve, make sacrifices, and have respect for the game are paramount to be accepted into any of the Roddick Total Tennis training programs. We are able to help students meet these requirements by keeping them from burnout. This is achieved by having each player take ownership of their tennis. We educate our athletes on how to listen to their body, which facilitates the highest quality of training, and prevents injury. Scientific research has concluded that it takes a minimum of 10 years and 10,000 hours of proper training for a talented player to reach elite level. This translates into slightly more than 3 hours of training or competition daily for 10 years.
With regards to our tactical or stylistic approach we at Roddick Total Tennis subscribe to the concept of time pressure/ time space. That means we encourage our players to pressure opponents by taking time away from them and understanding where to be positioned at the right time. This is done by developing an all court game that is conducive to taking advantages of opportunities.
